Brief discussions about things I've read and think more people should read
Smaller Homes on Smaller Lots Are More Affordable
This should be obvious, but I occasionally run into people who refuse to believe it. It seems unlikely that evidence will convince them, but just in case, a recent Dallas analysis by @shanedphillips.bsky.social makes it clear.
Democrats and the Demand to Fight
The word "fight" is doing heavy lifting in Democratic politics right now, and several things I recently read demonstrate what it actually means in practice. Pollster Sarah Longwell, in a conversation published as 'Trump Voters Are Finally Starting to Sour on Him' in the New York Times, reports a shift in her focus groups: "Democratic voters want their leaders to stop acting like peacetime diplomats, recognize the Republican Party for the threat it is and mount an effective counteroffensive." She's tracking letter-grade changes — more Republicans giving Trump C's and D's — but notes the opportunity isn't self-executing. The old-guard concern she hears from groups is not really about age: "They think the old guard won't fight because it's too sclerotic and stuck in the past. And to a large extent, they're right about that."
